Here’s what the petition says:
FACT: most household waste is the bulk 3rd class paper mail known as junk mail. FACT: 40% of all waste in U.S. landfills is paper waste. FACT: The United States Postal Service delivers over 50 lbs of junk mail including newsprint shoppers to the average household every year, most of it unwanted by the recipient. FACT: Corporate junk mailers including credit-carding banks pay a small fraction of the rate per piece you pay to mail a letter.
FACT 2010: The same greed-driven megabanks that taxpayers bailed out in 2009 –Â the same ones who gave CEOs bonuses as high as $100 MILLION while millions of Americans lost their jobs, homes, health insurance and life savings in consequence of their greed — pay only 19 cents to bombard Americans with low-interest CREDIT CARD offers that later sky-rocket to rates of 22% and higher, while citizens pay $0.44 to mail their payment to the same bank. FACT 2010: Taxpayers pay billions in USPSÂ subsidies to the same banks that plunder them, billions to haul the unwanted junk away, and billions for the landfills where most of it gets dumped.
THIS IS BUT ONE EXAMPLE OF THE CORPORATE SOCIALISM THAT IS ENRICHING THE WEALTHIEST 1% IN OUR NATION AT THE EXPENSE OF ALL THE REST, DESTROYING THE RESOURCES OF EARTH ON WHICH ALL LIFE DEPENDS!
Why are subsidizing the trashing of our trees, mailboxes and landfills by unwanted junk mail we can easily stop?
MORE FACTS: Almost half of all timber used in the U.S. is used to make paper. More than 100 million trees are cut down yearly to produce junk mail. Manufacturing and shipping junk mail emits more greenhouse gas than 9 million cars. Many of the inks used in junk mail contain toxic metals. Some leaching into groundwater is inevitable.
CONSIDER: A federal law know as the Do Not Call Registry (DNC) was enacted giving citizens the right and means to ban unwanted telemarketing calls to their homes, with good but far less compelling justification.
Surely we have right to refuse the waste of our time and taxes on the destruction of our environment!
I THEREFORE PETITION the Congress and President of the United States and Governments throughout the world to enact legislation enabling citizens to refuse receipt of junk mail. This law should take the form of a Do Not Mail Registry (DNM).

GEN regrets that even those of Direct Marketing Association’s efforts we think laudable have failed to stem the tide of wasted trees, energy, and money, and the carbon emissions we can no longer suffer. DMA’s efforts have failed and will continue to fail because many of the most egregious offenders are not DMA members, and because DMA cannot adequately police or enforce any sustainable-practices compliance, not even on its own members. Congress must now do it, pursuant to the long-expressed will of some 90% of the public. Sadly, DMA persists in employing Mail Moves America to lobby legislators against the creation of a “do not mail” list. Surprised? Don’t be. This is just one of the ways corporate special interests subvert the common good. This is just one example of the hundreds of billions of tax dollars that are invisibly diverted to the wealthy corporate elite.

Great stuff! One concern though: You may not want to use the “red/white/blue” font. It looks cheap, informal, and reminds me of the uber-conservative mass emails that are full of misinformation in order to brainwash the ignorant masses.
I really dig the message though and I was happy to sign the petition! Keep up the GOOD work!
