March On Washington 2010

Green Education Network Chairman & CEO Gregory Hilbert announced today that GEN has joined a Care2 call for a 2010 MARCH ON WASHINGTON DC (and capitols in all 50 states), to demand restoration of government of, by and for the people.
The call was triggered by a January Supreme Court ruling allowing corporations to spend at will on lobbying, political action and election advertising. Hilbert characterized the ruling as tantamount to high treason.
Hilbert said that he is collaborating with a movement on Care2 to help foment and promote a March On Washington and other actions. Care2 is a website with over 11 million members whose concerns include government policies, education, the environment and human and animal suffering.Â
Hilbert urged every person of every age and nation to join the group formed at Care2. Simply click the link below to do so:

FURTHER BACKGROUND: The Supreme Court ruling comes on the heels of an announcement by Goldman Sachs — one of the megabanks rescued from insolvency at horrific cost to taxpayers — of record profits and huge bonuses paid to executives with taxpayer money, just as the case after ING was bailed out. Those events were on the heels of corporate lobbying that knocked all teeth out of the Copenhagen Climate Treaty, and the discovery that those corporate interests and others had secretly funneled millions to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce to advertise against healthcare reform and environmental legislation.
Hilbert said that if greedy and irresponsible corporations and their industry and association lobbies are not brought to heel — and the Supreme Court ruling overturned by immediate constitutional amendment or other means— SUSTAINABILITY could not possibly be achieved and catastrophe would be inevitable.
On Care2 Hilbert commented “My terror extends to every “cause” about which I am most passionate and deep of conviction. Corporate interests (oil, military contractors) will get us into a holocaust of war over access to mid-East oil, I don’t want my son drafted to die in it! They knocked every tooth out of a Copenhagen climate treaty and used the Chamber of Commerce to kill that and health reform in the USA. Forget the rising risk of catastrophic global warming if you think the science faulty (which I do not) — we are exhausting every resource from drinkable water to arable land to ocean fisheries to forests and species, here in the USA and worldwide, even as global population rises and nations like China emulate our short-sighted corporate greed and the wasteful profligacy they’ve infected all of us with — mass starvation is inevitable within 25 years or less! And if anyone thinks the typical corporate exec is going to dilute quarterly earnings or let the stock price fall 10% and lose millions in bonuses in order to pursue a long-term socially responsible course, THAT PERSON IS A WHOLLY NAIVE OR IGNORANT FOOL OR ON THE CORPORATION’S PAYROLL. ”
