The movie Freedom Writers starring two-time Academy Award winner Hillary Swank is based on the true story of Hero Teacher Erin Gruwell and her Freedom Writers, who wrote the Freedom Writers Diary.

The Freedom Writers Foundation is not focused on Environmental Education, but Green Education Network finds the story  inspiring and the methods taught by Erin Gruwell and her Foundation Institute (click here to visit the site) have application for engaging at-risk students in learning about, saving and improving their own community and global environment, and considering further education and a career in the field.
